How not to get rid of old furnature...

If you have a neighbor with a debris bin, check with them before you toss in your old furniture.  Just adding it on top like our neighbors did is problematic.  It overfilled the bins.  Transporting an overfull load increases the chance that debris will fly out in transit.  So, most landfills in California won't accept bins that are overfull.  Please do not leave your trash for your neighbors to remove from their bin.

More progress on drainage and foundation

Door ways starting to take shape

You can make out the doorway to the downstairs bedroom and opening for the sliding glass doors to the playroom.  Pics as of yesterday.

Sundays Progress

I met our neighbors from two doors down today.  It's amazing how people feel free to start up a conversation when there is something obvious going on.  They are good people and it reminded me of why we like our neighborhood.

I trenched to put in a silt fence while Ian reinforced the pipe bringing our water to the house.

As of Friday

This was the progress as of Friday.  More work on rebar and demo of the front siding.

More work on rebar

I think the biggest accomplishment today was Ian scheduling an inspection for our piers.  Using the automatic phone system we couldn't schedule our pier inspection until we had a setback verification, but we couldn't schedule a setback verification until our foundation was inspected.  Ian got through to a real person and managed to get it figured out.

Snowing

No, not really, it's what happens to attic insulation when all sheetrock is removed.

How does your garden grow?

No silver bells or cockle shells... Rebar rods all in a row.  I used to have a veggie garden under that.

The earthwork is shaping up

Our foundation is looking like it's starting to shape up.  The roof we put on last fall is coming off.  So much work into a debris bin.

What's missing?

It may be hard to see progress, but we spent most of the afternoon salvaging old copper wire.

Thursday, August 7, 2014

We now have a safety railing around the opening for our chimney. The demo is starting upstairs, and lots more dirt excavated downstairs.

Mad Digging

Ian summarized today as "mad digging" by our excavation crew. There was also demo of some of he stucco in the area of the screen porch.  The photos show what the old insulation looked like.

Cozy night by the fire?

Not right now, watch that first step!  Also progress on the foundation.  Looking forward to a properly supported floor.

More demo today

Our contractors made good progress on excavating for piers and demoing.  Our cats inspected our demo, we salvaged a few outlets, and some curtains.

This is why were doing this

This picture doesn't do it justice, but its a beautiful peach sky just west of Mt Tam.  This is why we want to redo this house.

Shoring in place

Our house is now all shored up and ready for the work on the foundation.  Ian keeps walking around upstairs and commenting that the floor feels more level than it did before.
